Icon4 A note from Butters

“Fair and Balanced Gaming”

With this simple philosophy, a small group of friends got together to play what was at that time, one of the most exciting FPS games to hit the market, Counter Strike.

That was 1999.

From its humble beginnings, the premise of this community and its game servers has been to provide a place where friends from every corner of the globe could get together, laugh, trade barbs and fiercely battle each other for supremacy. For many of us, the thought of winning or losing wasn’t important, but just spending time laughing, drinking and having a good time were paramount after a long week at school or work.

Success was dependent on your internet connection, frames per second and the speed of your processor. Skill was gained by the number of hours you played, keen eyes and ears and how nimble your fingers stroked the keyboard.

Many new players, including me, usually only lasted about 2 minutes in any given round before being gunned down by someone who was faster and better than I was. I would have to wait until the round ended to try my luck again. Soon, I was taking out more opponents and in some cases, winning the round for my team.

And then as the next round started, I would be dead before I left spawn. Taken out by a sniper from 300 yards.

I can’t tell you how many times I would mutter how I hated CS and wished I could play like John, Chef, or Dex.

Fast forward to 2010…….

Half Life and its successful spin offs, Counter Strike and DOD have been surpassed by much more complex, blood splattering, jaw dropping, visually graphic, real to life games that depicts in the most horrifying detail, the death of an opponent, adversary or creature. With their state of the art graphics and complicated code, game makers continue to try and take us to the next level.

But even with all of their stunning graphics and terabytes of computer code, the game makers of today like those of yesteryears have not been able to stop the one thing that ruins gaming for everyone:

Cheating.

We have had a long standing rule that unless proven by fact and not accusations, a person could come here and enjoy themselves without fear of being kicked because they are better than another. We have had many comments, arguments and even have seen people leave the community frustrated because they thought that the Admins did not act to ban someone they thought was cheating.

To address this, I set forth some guidelines that further clarified our position. This clarification was based on the founding principal of “fair and balanced” gaming. It in part noted that should any player (regular or noob) who upset the game play to the point where it began to deteriorate the enjoyment of the others playing, would be removed. This rule, however controversial, was meant to ensure that everyone playing here had fun and allowed the Admins to moderate the games as they saw fit.

It was intended as a deterrent to those who would come in here and raise havoc by employing hacks that gave them an advantage over another player. Now, without having any evidence, an Admin could ban someone for changing the game play without having to prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that the person was utilizing or employing hacks.

Fair and balanced gaming.

We never stopped investigating players we suspected of cheating and more recently had to deal with in game attacks by players executing codes or scripts that disrupted our server. It is during this investigation we found to our dismay, that regulars who have played here for years, have been employing hacks to improve their game skill. This came to light as we analyzed the server logs, scripts and code being executed during these cyber attacks.

The senior Admins have discussed the findings and have taken steps to not only try to curb attacks to disrupt the server, but have also permanently banned those players found to be employing hacks. While we may not be able to detect and stop every attack or stop people from using “enhancements”, we will not stop investigating and take action when warranted.

This site and the games played are for the enjoyment of the community. If you think you need to utilize wall hacks, aim bots and the like to improve your score, there is a better way of doing it.

It’s called practice.

The idea is flawless, but the method to me always seemed like bs. Friends of friends bullshit. If you get liked then it's never a question, but if you don't get liked then there is always speculation.

ps: PB demo's are always good for a laugh!

I'll get my bat! I am quite disgusted that regulars would even think of it. Somehow, I see this as Phantoms fault.

I appreciate you guys checking up on all this stuff. Keep it up so we can keep the server clean from noobs.

Every time I think of dexworld now, I chuckle, because of one specific person who got hit by this purge. I told him many times that his stuff was obvious, a few of you know who I am talking about. I've always liked the fair and balanced view this server has kept over the years, and hope this is going to be a continued practice.

Hahaha, silly bastard should have heeded my warning...

I'm still here.. I don't think your methods are working properly :-P

But bravo on the purge. I'm quite happy that it happened. No one is excused for using hacks. Not even our regulars.

Heard some names of supposedly banned players thrown about on Dexworld last night. I think pure speculation at this point. However, I would have expected to see some activity on the ban board by now. Apparently no one is complaining - must have been a surgical strike (Col. Kurtz would be proud). Tooling around in the stats page, looking for high ranking players who have dropped down due to inactivity. Hmmm. I'm just curious, ya know.

Those nameless and anonymous souls shall remain that way, except for the ones known by few. Farewell, brothers, your hacking days are over.

Gotta say I also am very appreciative of the fair and balanced administration of dexworld. It is very frustrating when someone accuses a fellow player of hacking...and that fellow player had no way of proving his innocence. Its like accusing someone of racism.

I really appreciate the time you guys, and gals, put in to make dexworld a cool place to hang out and shoot nazis. And btw- kudos for 'analyzing server logs'. Dang man! I've looked through some of that stuff before...tedious!!
